4 Week Thailand Voluntour

A lifetime of memories, moments and one unforgettable adventure.

Our Thailand Voluntour is the perfect mix of responsible volunteering and incredible partying! For two weeks you will be giving your time building and caring for elephants and for the other two weeks you will be reaping the rewards on a world famous party island. This really is the best of both – you get all the good, fuzzy feelings of doing making a positive impact (and get to tick a few things off the bucket list) and then you get to party hard on an island that was practically made for it!

This thrilling adventure in Thailand will see you meet face to face with magnificent elephants in Surin, and then get your hands dirty on our building project in Sangkhlaburi.

Once you have helped change the world for the better it is then time to celebrate at a party unlike anything you have ever experienced! Think: fluorescent body paint, fire shows, cheap drinks and sand between your toes. You will spend two weeks on Koh Phangan, the ultimate party destination, where you will shake your tail feathers through the night and soak up the sun on the beach during the day.

Unlike our other experiences this one doesn’t have a guide following you around so you have more freedom – hooray for freedom! “But guys, what if we get lost, I fall into a pit or I can’t find anything to eat?!” Whoah, hold on there Captain Dramatic, we aren’t going to give you a compass or a knife and ask you to become Bear Grylls. Our team will show you how to get around and there will be coordinators at each volunteer project helping you out. It just means that you won’t have a guide for when you want to go out and explore or when you party on the island. But then who wants to be watched over while they are partying? Well, maybe P. Diddy does because he gets a lot of attention and people go crazy trying to get him to sign stuff… Oh and another thing, we also have a bat phone (also known as ‘the emergency phone’) that is always on 24/7 and ready to solve any serious issues. Just don’t try calling it for pizza at 2am though because it doesn’t work, we’ve tried.

We’ve combined the highlights of many of our programs into one show-stopper of an experience. This is the best of both, the ultimate half and half, the fun and the wild, the peanut butter and the jelly (wait, what?) – this is the Thailand Voluntour!

PS – Before you come on this trip we need to say sorry because once you party on Koh Phangan you might just realise how boring every other party is! So, yeah, sorry about that.

We take the hassle out of arriving into Thailand by meeting you at the airport and helping you get checked in to your Guesthouse on Khao San Road.

After a quick chat about your trip it will be time for you to experience some of the most famous sites of Bangkok including the Temple of Dawn, Wat Arun and the Giant Golden Reclining Buddha. Then later that evening you will head back to Khao San road for a few drinks with your new travel buddies.

Time to leave the concrete jungle of Bangkok for a trip to Surin, the elephant capital of Thailand. Our team will help you get to Surin and give you all the info you need while you are there. Then the guides will part ways with you and leave you in the capable trunks of the elephants!

Hey Nelly, why the long face? Haha, get it? Nelly the elephant, long face… Ahem. So for the next 4 days and 3 nights you will live, work and play alongside a real elephant community on the rural outskirts of Surin. You’ll get to bathe the elephants, learn how to cut bamboo as a sustainable food supply and feed them, and help out in any other elephant related jobs. In return you’ll be treated to traditional Thai food from the village for the duration of your stay.

If you are an adventurous (or aquatic) kind of person then you can can go kayaking on the lake during your free time.

On day 7 you will transfer back to the Surin shared house so you can share stories and put your selfies with the elephants on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram!

You get some free time in Surin to go and do some shopping at the local market, explore the area or just take the day to chill out.

We return to Bangkok for one more night of crazy fun on Khao San road before getting ready for the next stage of your Thailand adventure.

Have your camera ready for some stunning views from the window as you transfer to Sangkhlaburi, a picturesque town near the Burmese border, surrounded by deep lakes, rolling mountains and lush jungle.

As a building volunteer you will get the chance to make a practical, lasting contribution to the local community of Sangkhlaburi. While you will be supported by a translator, don’t be surprised if by the end of your project you have learned at least one Thai word: ‘Job’. The ‘Job’ is the Thai workers’ tool of choice. We’d recognise it as a hoe but in Thailand it’s more like a multifunctional tool! Depending on your project you may learn how to use this for digging, as a shovel, for mixing or as a carrying tool.

All the sweaty work is done and it is now time to transfer back to Bangkok for another stay on Khao San road which, for some reason, never get’s boring. Think of this last night of Khao San road as your pre-party party!

When we were younger we were told on Christmas Eve that Christmas would come sooner if we went to sleep earlier. Well day 17 is sort of like Christmas Eve, it gives you time to get excited about the following day! You will take an overnight transfer to party island, travelling by land and by boat through the night, and you will arrive on in the morning of day 18. Then it’s up to you to decide if you want two weeks of rest and relaxation on the sun kissed sands and warm sea waters or crazy night time fun at the home of the world famous Moon Parties. Of course this is the Thailand Voluntour so you should probably do both! Whatever you decide to do it’s your choice, you’ve earned it.

It’s once again time to travel back to Bangkok. If you partied too hard or got too chilled out then the return to the city will give you chance to ease back into the ‘real world’ again. We’ll provide you with a transport to get back to Bangkok and then you get one final night on Khao San road (so this would be the after-party party, right?) – the perfect way to finish the Thailand Voluntour.

Take your memories, your photographs and your new friends, but be sure to leave a part of yourself in Thailand so you can come back for it some day.
