Our Teaching programme in Surin gives you the unique opportunity to make a valuable contribution to the local community, and experience life in a typical Thai town.
With support from our team you will help to care for the young pre-school age children, teaching some basic English words along the way. The children who attend the childcare centre are all from local families who are all so grateful for the help, and the opportunity for their children to interact with native English speakers.
Surin is a vibrant Thai town, and whilst not as developed as big cities, it is packed with character and charm. The people are friendly, the food is tasty, spicy, and cheap; and spending time here will be an unforgettable and authentic Thai experience.
Day 1 – Arrival day. Meet your fellow travellers and our dedicated team, enjoy the sights and sounds of Bangkok.
Day 2 – Orientation and Bangkok Tour. A great day sightseeing and then spend an evening on the famous Khao San Road.
Day 3 – Transfer to Surin. You and your group will take the train to Surin. Taking around 8 hours it is an experience in itself. Sit back in the air conditioning and enjoy the journey. Be sure to take plenty of photos as you watch the Thai countryside go by.
Day 4 – 7 – The teaching experience begins. You will be picked up at a designated meeting point each morning and driven to the school. A member of the team will help you settle in, plan some activities and get you up and running. Your average day would run from around 8am to 3pm.
Day 8 – Free day. Time to relax, unwind and explore Surin. Our team will be happy to help you organise activities and let you know the best places to visit in Surin and the surrounding area.
If you are only staying one week, your return travel to Bangkok is not included, but our team will help you make arrangements. If you are staying for more than one week you will have the weekends to relax and explore.
- Planning lessons and activities for a classroom full of primary school children may at first seem daunting, but don’t worry - our experienced, bi-lingual support team are there to guide you every step of the way.
- Most activities will be based around very basic conversational English, and focus on getting the children talking and interacting with you and other students. It’s all about playing educational games and encouraging the children to speak English. The students will be following a set school curriculum and you will be given guidance from the school and our staff about the subject areas that you will be teaching.
- Your day will be made up of teaching, as well planning for your next classes. The school will have basic facilities, so you may spend time making flashcards or creating worksheets for your next class.
- The great thing about teaching is that no two days are the same, so be adaptable and go with the flow. By the end of the week you’ll be amazed at how much the children are learning!
